1960s: Design Series
Responding to conversations in abstraction, both among color field painters and Pop art, in the 1960s, Jarvaise developed a series of watercolors that depicted the American artist’s language of abstracted symbols in Fauvist hues of bright, emotive colors. These works are composed on the artist’s signature flattened backgrounds, highlighting the simple shapes and painterly mark-making.
