1980 - 1990s: Watercolors

In the 1980s and 90s, Jarvaise painted a series of watercolors that embraced bright, emotive colors with often whimsical subjects and painterly design backgrounds. Many of the artist’s early symbols of flora and fauna reappear, and for the first time, Jarvaise incorporated painted text into the works. Inspired largely by the early cubist painters, Jarvaise images scenes of circus acrobats, masked dramaturges, and returns to still life portraiture through a series of nudes and isolated portrait paintings.
